did anyone see zinzan's article in todays western mail. he spoke of his admiration for phil bennett, and some of the other legends of the 70's.
here's a bit of it - Brooke revealed his field of dreams when he was a child growing up in Auckland was his back yard, and he played the part of Phil Bennett. "I used to run around trying to side-step like the master," he recalled. "I would step off my right foot, then my left. I can remember it quite clearly, being brought up on Welsh rugby and the great Grand Slam winning teams of the 1970s. "Bennett, Gerald and Mervyn Davies, Gareth Edwards, JPR and JJ Williams, the Pontypool front-row and John Dawes, what players! "They captivated me as a young lad back in New Zealand. I wanted to be like them." |
