Very good game with Cardiff beating Connaught 33-21. Nice to see the referee making decisions himself instead of constantly checking with the TMO. I think he only went to the TMO once all game. It might lead to one or two more wrong decisions, but boy does it make it more enjoyable to watch!

Not surprised he didn't go to the TMO. Piardi reffed us out in Belfast last year.

He went to the TMO in that game, and got talked out of a red card by Brian McNiece.

BTW, from what I've seen of him, I think Piardi is a very good ref.

Yes, he very much is impressive and yes, sometimes it takes a MacNeice type lesson/debacle to make you that bit more decisive.

The power in Cardiff's pack, (and three quarters), wore down Connacht, whose lineout was also very poor. Even minus the two injured 10s they did enough to win more comfortably than the score suggests.
I thought Ken, as a commentator's butty, did very well - hope he's not tempted to give up his day job.

Cardiff played some inspired rugby, heads didn’t drop even after losing both 10s.

Listening to Jackman the Cardiff pack was huge compared to Connacht , whose pack is very small

Very good win for Cardiff.

Ulster we’re lucky to bear Glasgow. Good game there too.

A good start at least to the new competition with plenty of tries. Cardiff look well coached & dangerous.

That's some result considering both 10s off the pitch after 21 minutes!

Wales are in trouble for fly halves if Priestland is out as well as Evans. Looks like it's Sam Davies plus a n other. Anscombe has only played 30 minutes, needs game time and cosseting.

Priestland should not be out for long. Think Jarrod could miss the Autumn.

All Blacks beat Boks 19-17. Boks play their usual game, AB's squander 4/5 clear try scoring opportunities through a combination of bad decisions and poor handling. Interesting stat - Boks made 2 visits to the AB's 22. Lets all pray that the AB's bring this handling game to Cardiff in a few weeks.

from a side the best of situational rugby, from other the best of structured rugby...My feel is that SA lost the game cause of their mono dimensional game plan, but they dominated all the set pieces situations....
great game

Good win for Cardiff, especially with both 10s out of the game so early... certainly, there didn't appear to be any 'intent' in those injuries, but maybe a degree of recklessness/not looking - or is that unfair?

Funny old game isn't it - Pat Lam given a new very long term contract & his team reward him by getting hammered in their two first games of the season. Whisper it very quietly but it could just be that the English system is starting to make better use of the undoubted talent that is created throughout their junior rugby programmes.

Young players are getting opportunities and making their mark. Wasps full back the latest to get a MOM performance on his debut I think. Suddenly England, who have not had a decent 15 for decades, have a couple of real talents with young Freddie Steward impressing me hugely.

A final word on Colin Stephen's boy Iwan who has started his senior career with two tries in two at 19. A special player apparently who is exceptionally quick and a clever finisher.
