Team Announcement: Lewis To Bow Out After 13 Seasons

Parc y Scarlets will host Llanelli’s final game of the 2021-22 season tomorrow night, Thursday 21st April, as the club welcomes fellow Scarlets Premiership side, Llandovery.

The Indigo Group premiership will draw to a close for the home side tomorrow night after a difficult season, through Covid-related breaks and disruptions in addition to a lengthy injury list.

Llandovery currently lie in eighth position in the table, with two games remaining, while Llanelli will be looking for just their second win of the season.

In addition to the season finale for the club it will also be a memorable occasion for a number of individuals.

Scarlets Academy members Tal Rees and Macs Page (aged 17) will make their first start and debut, respectively, whilst long-standing servant Jonny Lewis will bow out after 13 seasons representing the club.

Speaking about the region’s two young guns, head coach Paul Fisher said; “Both Tal and Macs are in the region’s academy and it’s great to see them both getting opportunities on this level.

“Tal has featured twice for us off the bench having recently returned from shoulder surgery whilst Macs, at just 17 years of age, gets his first opportunity tomorrow night.

“They are both exciting young prospects and we look forward to seeing their development over the coming seasons.”

Commenting on Lewis’ contribution to the club, Fisher went on to say: “Jonny has been an excellent servant to the club. His level of performance has been consistent over the 13 seasons that he’s represented the club at this level, despite suffering a few difficult injuries.

“He’s a good guy, a very good leader, and will be sorely missed by us all here. Jonny has been an invaluable member of the squad and has been the heart and soul of the club since he joined over a decade ago. On behalf of us all here, I’d like to wish him well for the future.”

The Llanelli team to take on Llandovery in the Indigo Group Premiership, at Parc y Scarlets on Thursday 21st April, kick-off 7.30pm;

15 Ioan Hughes, 14 Amir Jiwa-Walji, 13 Tomos Davies, 12 Jonny Lewis, 11 Harrison Button, 10 Taliesin Rees, 9 Luke Davies, 1 Sam O’Connor, 2 Llew Phillips-Taylor, 3 Math Iorwerth-Scott, 4 Ashleigh Hyndman, 5 Chris Long, 6 Ryan Jenkins, 7 Luca Giannini, 8 Nathan Hart (c)

Replacements; 16 Rhys Cherry, 17 Rhys Davies, 18 Thomas Zoogah, 19 Caleb Salmon, 20 Jacob Lewis, 21 Archie Hughes, 22 Iwan Evans, 23 Macs Page

Come along and show your support to the boys. Entry via reception and the Quinnell Lounge, pay at the door.
