Patchell having scan this week on hamstring injury so he will be out for 4-8 weeks. Hardy was given 4-6 weeks after his scan so tomorrow is week 4. Haven't heard any news on Rob/Samson/Blade & their concussions issues which must be pretty severe as both Rob & Samson have been out for 3 months. Can't really see any of them featuring against Sale. Our front row should be Wyn, Ken, Pieter with Steffan, Ryan & Javan on the bench.
All returning Internationals must feature if we are to stand any chance of progressing in Europe. We have two winnable games ahead of us with Sale & either Gloucester or La Rochelle. That really is one of easier routes to a semi final with the likes of Leinster, Munster, Exeter, Toulouse & Racing being avoided.

You could see signs of improvement with Foxy in the last couple of games of the Championship. His performance against France was one of his best in a long while. I'd be more than happy with a Steff-Johnny midfield partnership, though.

No disrespect meant to Steff Hughes, who has many excellent attributes, but a Foxy who is a yard slower than the old one is still far superior to anyone else in the 13 shirt because of his wonderful positioning sense & strength in defence.

That suggests they are still going through the return to play protocols in that case so they still have to pass contact training.

I'll warrant that had Pivac not [beep]ed up and made those four immediate replacements and had Foxy been left on, France might not have scored that last try. His sense of positioning and organisation in defence would have been head and shoulders above that of either North or HallHolo

Yeah to be honest I too thought bringing on so many subs with little experience really hampered our chances. Biggar was having a great game, but Wales have done brilliantly to be honest despite the result. Just hoping for a fired up ruthless Scotland. Everyone has been unfairly Writing them off this week saying 21+ point win in the bag for france.

Watching Wasps v Sale now. Sale look competent, but not unbeatable. Faf de Klerk not playing, not sure why. I think we can beat them, the question is how many changes Glenn will introduce with the Wales players back, and how well we gel.

An atypical Prem sides for me. Lots of contact skills, proficiency in the set piece, solid defence, not so much invested in flair,

They will bring De Klerk, De Jaeger, Johnno Ross and Tom Curry into that 23 .
We need to them up front, possibly target there scrum . We will need to bring Wyn ,Ken, Jake up front ,possibly Blade on bench to cover lock, if fit ??
I would start Sanjay at 15, with Halfers on wing ,for his counter attack from deep . Sale defend very narrow,I felt they were sealing off a lot ,and looking to seal off at breakdown .
This will be a titanic clash, we have won our last four games against English opposition .

Gosh Sale must be almost as indisciplined as us, we may end up with a game of 7s in the end😂. I wonder whether bringing back any of the international players will make any difference if we go into the game with our recent game plan. First half against Connacht and in most of the games this season our game plan seemed to be kick deep and back our defence and pick up penalties or turnovers in or around the opposition 10 mitre/25 mitre lines. In the second half it seemed like the players threw that game plan away and went for bust (in order to save their European cup qualifying hopes), and we really looked useful. Play with that freedom we could surprise Sale, play to the first half game plan and it could be a very uncomfortable evening for all involved.

I hope that all returning Internationals feature in the starting 15. Also I think we have to seriously consider having Tom Rogers in the back 3. We are a team who lack real pace & he showed what he can do 2nd half against Connacht. Don't see them putting Johnny Mc straight back in so an interesting selection dilemma from Halfpenny, Liam, Steff Evans & Tom.
To win against Sale as all Premiership teams we will have to be solid in the front 5. RR has highlighted above where they will go for us for sure. Pieter & Javan have fronted up well recently in all fairness & Steffan Thomas has done all asked of him - admittedly this is going to be a big step up for them.

Tom for Steff Evs for me. Steff Evs hasnt really done anything of note for quite some time. Id even hazard a guess if he would have been on the wing for the pas out wide, he wouldnt have finished it off IMO. Either tackled before the line or would have kicked it away.
Tom Rogers showed a very calm head to score the try in the corner (in the end ruled out due to schultz forearm offence) - but that was a calm finish allowing the ball to do majority ofthe work, didnt panic, lovely finish. The second try - what can be said. an incredible sidestep and a brilliant finish against was it 3 very quick Connacht players. For me, the next few games, he starts.
Steff perhaps could do with missing a few games until he gets his mojo back. He's been a mainstay in the side all season and may well need a bit of a break. I personally cant see Tom Rogers offering any less than Steff v Sale - potentially more if anything. Halfpenny, Sanjay and Rogers for me in back 3.

100%. Most important game of the season thus. Hopefully we will have Mcnixholl back to add some cutting edge.

Which way around would you have them? I think Foxy has struggled a bit at 13 for us this season. If Williams is comfortable defending there I’d be tempted to keep Foxy at 12.

No, he just cannot help he is a bit undersized and lacks acceleration.

Johnny is a 12, and a better 12 than Foxy imho. Keep the best player for the position there. We are weak at 13 though.

Foxy defending at 12. That might mean he plays the whole game there, which I’m mot against, but it’s a bit harsh on Jonny W.

As much as I rate Steff Hughes, Foxy started to return back to form by the end of the Six Nations and you need you’re class players in the team for these big games. Therefore Bleddyn at 12 and Foxy at 13 for me. I would have no complaints however if Steff Hughes was in there instead. If Conbeer is still injured I’d like to see Tom Rogers start as long as the coaches think his defence is up to standard. I’d have him ahead of Steff Evans as Evans’ play has been below his normal level all season and we desperately lack speed in our backline.

Sanjay to start at fullback for me. Crazy to think this season is effectively coming to an end (pro14 already over) and it will be his third game back for us. Halfpenny played against Ireland all those weeks ago, players need a run of games. Frustratingly our best players haven’t had that. Its a tough call.
Fly half i’d probably choose Dinky. Patchell being fit doesnt change things, he pulled out last week because of a hamstring, a high risk throwing him in there off the back of that.
Scrum half Cawdor, I bet he’ll be motivated going up against Faf and Blacker off the bench with all the pace and energy he brings could turn things in our favour. Not sure on the status of Hardy.

| They need Halfpenny’s positional play, defensive ability and goal kicking for this one. Patchell isn’t fit and unless something has changed over the last few days won’t be for a while

1/2p is still a much better all round 15 than Sanjay.
Edit: Maybe not much better, but definitely better.

I think Liam surpassed him a few seasons ago. Halfpenny is still a very solid 15, and I’d start him against Sale as Liam is needed on the wing, but goal kicking aside I don’t think Lee offers much that Liam doesn’t these days.

When was Leigh last carded? His positional play is phenomenal. He's not the counter attacker that Sanjay is, but how often does Liam make a clean break compared to how often he has a brain fart or concede a penalty?
I think in terms of points difference per game, 1/2p is definitely the better value player. Sanjay is definitely a starter for me, on the wing though

Liam’s discipline isn’t as bad as most people think. He averages around one card per season.
I don’t see many brain farts from him. I think he’s safe as houses at 15 and due to his height and ability to catch the ball over his head, is even better under the high balls than Halfpenny.

Both to play if available for me, leaves Steff Evans and Mc Nic to fight out the other place. On current form that's Steff.

Liam is a better fullback than given credit for. He was reliable in defence, far better under the highball, and our attack looked far better with him hitting the backline. Discipline was good all 6N, kept his head on, and was unfairly carded v France. Not sure Steff is the best wing on form, he’s distinctly slower than whoever he comes up against, and just relies on kicking to try and make ground.

Don't think Tom Rogers should be left out of discussion in our back 3 selection. Two Lions available = both play simple decision. Halfpenny has no competition in Europe as a defensive FB & add in his goalkicking and it would be foolish in the extreme to not play him 15.

Tom Rogers should start for me, as I previously said.Liam at full back for his better counterattacking game ,with Halfers on other wing. Hopefully Blade ( cover lock on bench) Costelow and Rob will also be available.

The counter attacking thing is a misnomer IMO both Sanjay and Pence are top end test players and should be good enough to interchange positionally throughout the game
