Anybody else or just Johnny?

Its a shame he hasnt given Jarod Evans a chance but its a good team who can hopefully get a convincing win

Got to think that Jarrod may have his head turned now by the offers from across the bridge.

Webb’s put himself in the wilderness. He didn’t want to be in the squad as 3rd choice.

Harsh on Johnny to start the tournament as first choice 12 and now be sidelined. Not sure the logic of Fox at 12.

Yep, wherever he ends up you can be sure that the English media will be bigging him up in a years time.

Consisitent selection by Pivac which is good. I have criticised his selections in the past many times. Wainwright on the bench for Botham as he is looking at limiting Faletau's minutes. Beard genuinely rested because he's still carrying a few niggles after the England game. Rhodri injured so selects Carre, an original squad selection & not parachute Smith in. Webb's chose not to be in the squad so only has himself to blame.

Pivac doesn’t rate Jarrod very highly and if Biggar wasn’t in the 23 he’d have to go back to Northampton

Well that makes two of you Steff. Perfect opportunity to see if Jarrod has taken on board the work ons which Pivac has requested. He is still our most exciting attacking 10 in the squad as we Scarlets can testify. Big danger that Jarrod looks at the situation with both Anscombe & Patchell to return and decides to take the money on offer over the bridge. Being 5th choice 10 is not an attractive proposition.

Maybe he hasn't displayed any of the requested work during training which is why he hasn't been picked.

But Jarrod needs to prove that he can take on board what numerous coaches have told him. He’s extremely talented yes but his game management and kicking game has been found wanting on numerous occasions. Anscombe had to coach him from full back when Cardiff won the Challenge Cup. Pivac is absolutely right to go for continuity this weekend. A big win will move Wales closer to the Championship.

Agreed, the points difference against Italy could be crucial if France don't beat England or Scotland.

With the side that Pivac has selected, I can see him giving them a message of get the BP secured by half time so that some of the players that need time on the pitch can play the 2nd half.

Ken, AWJ and Biggar could be lined up to only play the 1st 40 to keep them safe and fresh for France.

Continuity is fine & a big win is indeed the goal. Something doesn't quite add up though - we are often told that players returning to England hampers their chances as they miss so much preparation yet we lose two of our three 10's which leaves one for training yet he doesn't get selected. Not quite right in my view.

Evans is dasher, wales fans love that type of 10.

Your right he has flaws in his game but he is enjoyable to watch, Pivac doesn't fancy him it's as simple as that and that is fair enough and you can't blame Pivac for that. It;'s his job on the line he is doing what is his best for him

If Anscombe and Patchell come back to fitness I doubt evans will even be in the  welsh squad , and priestland could even oust him at the blues next year

If an English club make him a better offer than the blues do you can't really blame him for going to England , like Pivac not picking him . Evans is  doing what is his best for him , when does sheedy's contract expire?  He is going to have to come back to wales then isn't he? same for ioan Lloyd

I think the reason he isn't lauded more outside of Wales is that we don't use a driving maul much as an attacking option where as England do so Jamie George scores more tries.

Yes Ken has done really well. Can't think of any hooker playing better this 6 nations. Young Kelleher has his backers but George has suffered like his other Saracens colleagues.

Yep, Ken has done brilliantly.

We’ve been fortunate in the Line-out though with Blade getting injured in the first 15mins against us and Lawes injured for England.

I share the same Lions hope for him as he’s definitely in the top 2 with George.

Huge fan of the sheriff, playing as well as ever and the lineout seems to be functioning much better, scrum looks solid, the welsh defence has tightened and his work rate around the field is great... all time ledge and still more in the tank

The lineout has been very good after the first game, and the scrum has been solid for a while... Ken deserves a lot of the credit, but so do the coaches for improving a very poor lineout a while back. Ken definitely has a few more miles in the tank, as you say!

I think his rating has risen on here too....Hes in charge at the lineout, hes effective in the tight exchanges with size and work rate and has shown up in the wide channels with some crisp passes. Hes exceeded my expectations, hes got a touch of the charteris about him. Hill is another player who surprised me over the years, very industrious mobile versatile lock/flanker. He reminds me of rob sidoli an under rated hard working forward.

I have always rated the guy but, for some, if you play across the bridge you have to be a lot better to get credit unless, of course, your name is Mark Orders.Cry

I think he's suffered from inconsistency - when he's good, he's very effective, as we have seen recently.

He was told what he needed to by Pivac to get back into the International mix & he went back to the Ospreys, worked hard & produced better performances. I always said he wasn't playing to his full potential but he does seem to be getting there now.

I wasn't aware until the England game of how good a passer of the ball Beard is.Not an attribute associated with many locks, and credit to the coaches for utilising this facet of his game.

The only saving for Italy was the fact that Foxy offered nothing in attack, Adam’s was poor and Sanjay was also poor in attack - otherwise it could and should have been 60 plus.
We had 2 tries ruled out by the TMO, Adams and Foxy messed up between themselves on at least 2 other decent attacking positions.
I’d be tempted to start with Halaholo and North next weekend as currently Foxy only offers you something in defence and nothing in attack.

First half superb. Really didnt do much wrong. Lineout, driving mauls. super quick recycling, intensity....I thought everyone played well first half. Biggar controlled things foxy and north looked a good pairing....tiipuric was everywhere , navidi was in the heat of battle , faleteau huge work rate, cory hill big game...Ken was superb, 2nd try was class.
then we rested a few like north biggar cawdor ken awj and the props all went off very early...It probably disrupted us a little. The only downside made a few unforced errors 2nd half, we also left 3 simple tries out there, biggar forward, adams basic error and foxy threw a bad pass.....fox was blowing late on, but had a class first 40. the italian winger scored a sublime try too.... 7 tries to 1 job done.

He made errors I agree and was blowing late on, but he made a few yards and gave a sublime through the tackle pass to create norths try...adams hot and cold...Liam was poor in attack made some strange errors and looked a bit hesitant

Don't see what all the Halaholo love is about.  Average when he came on for North.  Mind you I don't really see the Jonny Williams love either.  Lot of energy with both but not much rugby skill and direction.. Where are the silky runners and passers gone?

To be fair to Johnny, he’s played little rugby. Left on sidelines by Wales, injured, etc. Had a handful of matches for us so far, and it’s coming off him taking a while out of the game for cancer treatment. He’s a skilled player and needs minutes, whether it’s for Wales or us.

Ospreys now need to play North 13, alongside Williams.

LRZ & Adams first choice Wales wings.

Liam or Leigh at 15.

Job well done. So too Paris & Super Saturday.

Marzio Innocenti is the FIR president. The twenty year more darkness of our rugby history is closed and the result of this tournament are the summary of they did in the last years...
Now Italy needs a new fresh air, there money enough for try to change this course, or these are the last games in 6N for us...
About yesterday, players remained in rest room before the start, Italy is not so bad, or in the clubs they never played so bad...
The first thing to do is sack all the coaching staff and Smith has to choice who he wants...
Wales won and I m happy, but I feel so sorry for the boys on the field, they dont dererve all this..

Good first half then we got really sloppy. Adams, Foxy & Liam were guilty of blowing chances which we won't get away with next week. Adams' attempt to score in the 2nd half was extremely poor.

Foxy seems to be solid if unspectacular really.

Fickou & Vakatawa will present our midfield with some interesting challenges.

I actually think the try was good - given the shape of a rugby ball, the rear end (away from the camera) MUST have been on the grass, before it got lifted a little. Just as much a try as Itoje's, IMO, and the commentators thought so too at first, before being talked out of it by the TMO. (In Itoje's case, the TMO talked the ref into awarding the try.) No wonder Adams looked bemused, and he must have known - just as LRZ was amazed last game's try got given.

I thought both were valid.

You may or may not be correct Aber but Adams had so much time to finish the try without any need for the TMO. For what its worth I thought both Adams' & Itoje's were not tries.

You fear 'for' them, I think you mean?

Well, they'll be up against a class pairing, no doubt... Gethin J will need to make sure they are on the same page defensively - Foxy did all he had to do there yesterday, TBF. North still unused to the position, but is quick and strong.

It could go either way, but most games are won in the forwards, and I rather fancy our pack ATM.

Haha! So we completely disagree! As I say - it looked as if the balls in both cases touched the ground very early (over the line) before being lifted...

Maybe some sort of IT system could be invented to decide these marginal calls, like the one used in tennis for line calls.

Yes Aber the pack seem to be getting stronger - I think Beard will come back in with Hill to the bench as he is more physical. Elsewhere I can't see too many changes unless they feel Tomos Williams is ready for the bench.

Fair assessment that. He must be doing something right but as you alluded at nothing spectacular.

Think his defensive line organising skills likely makes our defence a lot stronger - I bet we'd notice if he wasn't there - but he is limited in attack at the moment. Still can't pass off his right hand but never mind, can't do everything I suppose. Next week will be a test but Foxy has been there, done that so having that solidness and experience at 12 isn't a bad thing. Plus there's almost no other realistic options.

Im not overly concerned about foxy and north dealing with those 2. It will be a collossal clash and in certain positions fickou vakatawa and thomas are unstoppable regardless who is defending , penaud is also class. But theyre not the same team on the back foot. I thought foxy had a very good first 50. He did everything right , made some hard yards, tackled like a dervish, competed at breakdowns, popped a lovely pass to creat norths try, did all the donkey work, ripped off an italian 10 yards from our line...second half he faded though. It surprised me pivac took off north and kept on foxy, maybe hes just trying to get him back to 100% match fitness

Hope Josh learns a lesson to get the ball down asap in future. Sometimes you only get one chance in 80 minutes.

That's three of us who see it that way - but since GPR can never be convinced he's wrong about anything, I doubt he'll be joining us!Wink

Bit below the belt there Aber - well I guess I'll have to make do with having the TMO on my side.

Unfortunately, the TMO was wrong in this case!

But feel free to disagree with the TMO on the Itoje try, if you want... oh, you already did that!LOL

I think the best thing about the Italy game is we’re continually showing progress on the one thing Pivac makes his teams really good at.

That’s having 15 people on the pitch who can pass the ball properly. Yes there were a few bad passes in the last 20 when we’d switched off - but you watch Wyn Jones, Ken, Hill and AWJ are all comfortable giving and taking a pass.

That, on top of the talents of Tips, Faletau & Navidi, means were a threat all over the park cause we’re 3 passes from getting it from one side of the pitch to the other.

I’m pretty sure that’s what Pivac was brought to the Scarlets to work on as forwards coach and it now seems to be building into the Wales camp.

Cawdor is more disruptive on the defence and Beard had a hell of a game vs England.
