Could just be that he has come back home for a break whilst he is injured & has popped in for a coffee. I don't think any of the regions can match what he is on at Sarries.

Brilliant if true about Liam and would be great if Scott came home as he doesn't look at home at the Ospreys and doesn't seem to be the same player that left the Scarlets!

What's the point of having three full backs/ wings who will be away with Wales at the same time?  It's bad enough now with Johnny and Leigh ( not counting Steph) away.  Time to properly expose our young flyers Williams, Conbeer, Baldwin and Lewis.

Is anyone in contact with £85,000 a year Car-Park Executive Manager, Laurence Delaney? Perhaps he and his crack team of elite car-park operatives can rig something up, sharpish.

The greatest Scarlet myth ever? It has some stiff competition. Stephane Glas being seen in the car park at Stradey. Signing Gavin Hastings (or was it Craig Chalmers) in the 90s because he'd been lined up with a job at a local business.

Fantastic stuff, and so many more.

That’s up there with the Delaney car park manager one IMO.

The menu in the club cafe has changed since he’s gone.

He could also have come for a discussion with our new coaching staff.

I think Leigh has been great for us, quality signing but given the choice between him and Sanj, its Sanj everytime. This is also taking in to account their respective ages and the fact Dan Jones and Patchell have improved their goal kicking no end. No doubt down to Leigh!!

As for Scott, well that's a tricky one. Heart says yes, head says may be not. Don't think we need to add to our stable of ageing centres and i'd love to see Steff at 12 and Cory at 13 as our long term partnership. Two home grown lads.

I believe he has just turned 29 so a few years younger than Fonotia, Parkes and Foxy.

Yes, same as you with Scott. If he was still with the Scarlets then keep him and extend his contract. Not sure he ever regained the level since his knee operation. Lets see how this season goes.

Scott has another two seasons left on his contract, including this one.  He wouldn't return until 2021, by which time he will be 31.

Very good point. Would it be more beneficial to bring in NWQ that can play full back, wing and possibly centre. David Havili type player to be around all season and to provide experience to the likes of conbeer when Halfpenny, mcnicholl etc are away.

I think if Liam comes back you'll see Leigh off to the Ospreys. He's out of contract in the summer as well.

With all the concussion issues Leigh is having he may decide to hang up his boots at the end of this contract.

Personally I hope we have Sanjay back and Halfers can have a bath or a shower, his ablutions are up to him. This isn’t any kind of slight on Leigh, I would just choose Sanjay over him. Leigh has worked tremendously hard over the last few seasons to try and play a Scarlets based game, it just hasn’t worked. Leigh hasn’t been the replacement for Sanjay that we were hoping. However, if we fail to entice Sanjay back, I would be the first one to cheer if Halfers extends his contract.

with the long term injuries to foxy and patch, covered by the Wru insurance that frees up a big saving on wages for the next year. Rather see us not replace either short term and invest the saving made on by their wages being paid by Wru on securing Liam. Happy to keep halfers as one or possibly both will be unavailable for large parts of the season

As mentioned previously, it would be amazing and some coup if we were to have both players. The rugby world would be truly envious of us. However, I hope that the opposite doesn’t come to pass and we end up with neither.

Can't see us entertaining both. We have other more pressing priorities - tight head being one area we will need to strengthen along with probably our midfield with Foxy/Hadleigh's availability issues and their ages.

Posted By: turkishrebel
Date Posted: 27 November 2019 at 1:38pm
I think centre will be covered by the development of Baldwin and also the form of steff hughes, think tight head is an issue. but would think we would get another year or so out of werner. Samson is not 1st choice with wales so he will have game time and would hope jevan would develop further as well.
I would love us to keep both liam and leigh, but if it is a choice it would be liam.

Quite - and I don't see the need to build up one player (Sanjay) at the expense of another (Leigh) - both are world class players who happen to have different attributes. And, BTW - Leigh's attacking play has improved a lot since he came to the Scarlets. He is, of course, a significantly better defender than Sanjay.

Whether we can afford both at the same time is a different question - I'd agree that Sanjay's style fits in more with a traditional Scarlet style, and he is definitely one of my all-time favourite players, so if it was as simple as a choice, I'd plump for him - but things are often more complicated than that. I simply hope that we have one of them for 2020-21 - and if we have both, I'll be over the moon!

Scarletnut's comment gives rise for some optimism, regarding the return of Sanjay, but I can't help agreeing with GPR that this shouldn't be our highest priority, when we could be down to only one experienced 10 in the months between Lamb's departure and Patch's return. And also, great servant as he has been, Werner, is approaching the end of his career and unless Javan gets up to speed quickly we may be struggling at tight head also (as Gardiner's play in the loose doesn't exactly fit in with the style of play we will probably adopt) under Mooar..

It's a very dated opinion to say"we already have one of them what's the point?"

There are a few points, the likes of Man
City would sign him so nobody else has him. Would you rather Liam lines up for us or the ospreys in the WW derby?

Secondly the amount of injuries in the modern game is outrageous so a deep squad is required and I've always been
Of the opinion that a squad should be filled from the top down and not bottom up.

Thirdly, how strong would our matchday 23 be when all fit?

And also, great servant as he has been, Werner, is approaching the end of his career and unless Javan gets up to speed quickly we may be struggling at tight head also (as Gardiner's play in the loose doesn't exactly fit in with the style of play we will probably adopt) under Mooar..

On this point - is there any chance we could extend Lamb's contract, with Patch's return date unknown, and with a likely call-up to Wales during the 6N in any case?

Yes I agree tight-head is a position we need to strengthen. Werner has been a terrific servant but he can't go on forever.

Think some people have been a bit blinded from performances in the rwc. Personally thought HP was on top form in his games whereas Sanjay was off form, hard for Sanjay to shine under Gatland I must admit. HP is defensively stronger than Liam be it under the high ball, positioning and giving his wingmen orders of where he wants them to be. Counter attack is a no brainier and with Liam being my favourite player to watch since first seeing him in a scarlets too with his massive sidies looking like JPR jr. if there’s a good chance of holding onto both then I’d be well up for that, just because we need a tight head doesn’t mean we’ll get one by not having these two on our books. How long did it take to find a suitable 8?!

Technically Halfpenny is a more reliable 15 with a superb positional sense, text-book tackling and better defensive kicking. Where Sanjay excels is in spontaneity, and using his unique athleticism to do the totally unexpected, both in defence but more importantly in turning defence into attack. However it does involve putting his body on the line, and there is always a greater risk of injury from his actions. Yes, it would be great to have both with the Scarlets for those parts of the year they are not being used by Wales. But will we still think that when we are regularly conceding scrum penalties or find that our 10 can't get the backs moving from good ball??

For sure. Liam is one of best attacking FBs in the world, and HP one of the best defensive FBs.

No. I doubt if there is a better positional 15 in world rugby than 1/2p, which is why when he catches kicks ahead, it often looks easy... both are fearless tacklers, but 1/2p has the better technique overall... both are very brave going for high balls, probably 1/2p misses fewer. 1/2p is a more accurate and longer kicker. Sanjay is the more dangerous runner, but 1/2p is much improved since joining the Scarlets. Sanjay can win turnovers, which can be invaluable.

Both world class.

I agree h/p has the positional advantage. Wouldn't say that there is much difference in terms of tackling and also Sanjay is one of the strongest back 3 players in the world going up for a high ball, so HP would clearly trail there.

Johnny Mcnicholl and Liam williams on each wing with Halfpenny back there at 15, not sure anyone would be kicking the ball to them.

So is Cassiem the #8 we have been looking for since Morgan? After an injury affected first season, is 5-6 games enough to decide he is the real deal? I hope he is.

No 5-6 games is not enough. Last season he was a huge disappointment but he has played very well this season so far. Brad is using his forward resources cleverly so far trying to keep the big workload players as fresh as he can. Big period coming up until mid January so he will use the returning Internationals so his 6 nations team can rest up a bit.

Even if Brad or someone else had been contacted for comment they would say little/nothing until it was all done and dusted, so yeah, not sure what sort of quote people would be expecting.
From memory Wayne used to be a bit more open with regards to who we were/weren't in discussions with, but generally comments are kept to a minimum until it's a done deal.

There must be some legs in this story, people on here stated that Liam was seen at PYS recently, WOL states it today and Brad mentioned it last week, stating that Liam had been down at PYS and that he was a Scarlets legend and that he would love him to return, but wouldn’t comment on any contract negotiations.
This, if true would be a huge thing for the Scarlets and I for one would welcome him back with open arms.
