Indeed. We seem to develop loads of threequarters, 9s and front row forwards - but no second rows!

BTW - surprised to see so many Blues - are they turning things around at last? Or will these guys get lost somewhere between U-20s and Blues squad?

True but there's two good locks in the U18s now Lewis Ellis Jones (who's also Captain) and Ellis Thomas, with Gethin Davies a good ball carrying 8.

Aber - the Blues usually have a good number of 20's players but over the years they seem to drift away from the game it seems. I admit 12 is a big number. Should be good news for them in 3- 4 years but I won't hold my breath.

Blues and Dragons always get the majority of boys in there because that's where the coaching staff are from! Simplte

Watched the Blues v Scarlets U18s just now on Rygbi Pawb . The Blues deservedly won 31 -19. they did have the bigger pack including several of last year's  Coleg y Cymoedd pack. So not only do the Blues have the whole of the populous S. Glamorgan area to choose from, but they also have the old Warriors region where community rugby is if anything stronger. But this wasn't the reason they won last tonight.
They just employed better tactics. They slowed down our ball, put pressure on our line trying to distribute  and run the slow ball (in situations where kicking for position would be a much better option) and took advantage of mistakes. The Blues tackled very well, and kept possession far better near our line. they also had a very good 10 and no real weaknesses.
For us Llew Smith also looked a good 10 but had far inferior ball to play with and Dan Davis did well at 7.

REALLY ?? I coach in Pencoed and they are definitely part of the Ospreys Region !

I know the Vale of Glamorgan and Rhondda Valleys are in the Blues but the cut off point if i recall is at Llanharan / Cowbridge on the Westerly edge.
Herman Tours ... Still the best way to travel !

I stand corrected on that . It should have read " but they also have a substantial part of the old Warriors region" The point being that the Blues AND Ospreys (and maybe even the Dragons) gained from the dissolution of the Warriors and have more players to choose from. That's particularly important when it comes to filling positions where size IS important eg second rows and back row. The more you have to choose from, the more likely you are to find a good big un.
