Our population density made it all the more imperative to close our borders early. As yet the borders have not been closed. Millions of people from all over the World, many carrying the virus have been allowed into the Uk without any form of quarantine. The NZ PM recognised the problem and acted swiftly for which she should be rightly praised. If she had been UK PM we would not now be sitting on 40,000+ dead & still having 1000 cases per day.

if we can forget the political allegiance for a second can anyone explain why the survival rate in germany still 3 times better than ours? If the disease is the same and we do have capacity to treat patients then why are our people dying at 3 times the rate????

There’s some questions I’d be asking to figure out why that is: Are those figures throughout the pandemic or only the last few weeks? (Our testing figures were very low at the start.) How much asymptomatic testing do both countries do? (More likely to be light cases.) What is the average age of each country? (Younger people more likely to get light cases.) How do both countries record deaths? (Do Germany perhaps obly record deaths where Covid was the main cause of death, I don’t know 🤷♂️?) I’d imagine a combination of those would be the reason for the vastly differing death rate, rather than poorer care in UK hospitals.

yes one would think so its bound to have some positive impact added to all the precautions, maybe masks are helping a bit too I see plasma blood is being given now from ex covid patients to those fighting it, the blood has the anti bodies to fight the covid I thought this had started weeks ago tbh

dreading the scenes of revellery and debauchery tomorrow and beyond in england, say a prayer for the bar staff and the nhs staff...I mean if youre a nurse or doctor or paramedic in a and e and in walks a drunken abusive drunk with bad attitude who may also have covid , how do you fancy treating him/her?

Must be the same contact tasting that carries out three hundred thousand, and thirty four, nine hundred and seventy four thousand tests.

Reputable country databases should be forensically analyzed to better understand what is the right approach....or maybe there are some regions that have some ability to defy the worst of the virus, compared to others...on the surface of it there are things that defy logic... For example ... Germany and Japan data would be considered reputable sources in my view...both have been up there as the most successful in managing the fatality rate. Their approach differs immensely though...Germany has run some 6m tests ... Japan just under 350k... Japan has the highest average age of any country in the world, so you would have thought it to be more vulnerable....all it's antibody tests suggest an infection rate in the population of just 0.2%... There's some precious data in there somewhere. |

Although the Japanese have an aged population, apparently, their fitness and diet is such that there is very little obesity and diabetes, two factors which markedly increase the mortality rate in the west. Possibly their care-home arrangements are also markedly different to ours and it also helps if infected people are not returned to care homes or to their equivalent!!
The wearing of masks is also much more common in Asia so that those unfortunate enough to be infected rarely infect others through coughing. Edited by Ffidel Bennett - 04 July 2020 at 9:46pm |

Ah, so it was the care homes' fault all along: “We discovered too many care homes didn’t really follow the procedures in the way that they could have but we’re learning lessons the whole time. Most important is to fund them properly but we will also be looking at ways to make sure the care sector long-term is properly organised and supported.” - Johnson. Shift blame then waffle nothingness.

Government advice in March was that people in care homes were unlikely to become infected by Covid19. ONS figures show that 40% of all Covid19 deaths have been in care homes. There is a Grand Canyon sized blunder between those two sentences that probably needs a public enquiry all of it's own.

“Earlier this year, and until 12 March, the government’s own official advice was, and I’m quoting from it, ‘it remains very unlikely that people receiving care in a care home will become infected.’” Keir Starmer, 13 May 2020 “It wasn’t true that the advice said that.” Boris Johnson, 13 May 2020 ----------------------------------------------------- My thoughts are well-known but how are we allowing Johnson to lie so brazenly and without consequence in the House of Commons? Why doesn't the UK public care more??? I know he has silly hair and says funny phrases like "whack a mole" (describing his own government's response to localised outbreaks BTW) but FFS. If he was in court then he would be guilty of perjury. If he was on trial he would be found guilty. Yet, he is our highest elected politician and leader. You tell me people. This is not an isolated incident either, and in case we forget, he is lying about an error that has claimed 20,000 British lives (source: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-53280011). But he makes us laugh with his funnies. You tell me.
