Plymouth Albion make six changes for their B & I Cup visit to Wales

For their second match in this seasons British & Irish Cup, which is away to Carmarthen Quins (Saturday kick off 2.30pm), Plymouth Albion have made six changes to the side beaten by holders Leinster A last weekend.

The only change in the backs sees Jake Henry come onto the wing for Lewis Warner who moves into the centre.

In the front row Fijian international Sam Matavesi makes his first start of the season for what will be his 50th appearance for the club.

Prop Tom Heard, lock Tom Jubb, and flanker Eoghan Grace, who all came on as replacements last week, are handed starting spots.

The final change sees Ali Bone selected at No 8 replacing Welsh international Rhys Oakley.

Canadian international Brett Beukeboom will captain Albion for the first time.

On the replacement bench there is a welcome return for Herbie Stupple who has been out for nine months with an ankle injury.

The match against Carmarthen Quins has been switched to Parc Y Scarlets stadium in Llanelli.

Plymouth Albion:

15 Marc Koteczky, 14 Elliot Clements-Hill, 13 Lewis Warner, 12 Toby Howley-Berridge, 11 Jake Henry, 10 Lawrence Rayner, 9 Josh Davies,

1 Luke Chapman, 2 Sam Matavesi, 3 Tom Heard, 4 Tom Jubb, 5 Brett Beukeboom capt, 6 Rob Langley, 7 Eoghan Grace, 8 Ali Bone

replacements 16 Ted Stagg, 17 Dan Pullinger, 18 James Gibbons, 19 Herbie Stupple, 20 Cameron Setter, 21 Pete Homan, 22 Tom Hicks

Luke isn't too happy at the moment, he's busy marking the pitch and the Scarlets come out for a team run!LOL
The stadium may change, but the dream will remain the same!

Interesting back row spanning the 3 feeder clubs.
Shouldn't Darran Harris be out in Toulon?
Why don't we start Lee Williams at 9 and why have we only got 7 replacements?
More questions than answers as the old song goes.

Couple of points. Wasnt everyone fully aware that this would be a regional select team, im sure they were you know..
Also do we know for sure the region insisted that the match was at the Parc? All idle speculation really.

How many of these players are actually Quins players , im all for it being a scarlets A team but I find it unfair on the Quins who earned the right to play in the cup . Ponty And Cross Keys arent doing the same.

Yes but unless they play regularly as a team or squad it becomes more like a scratch team and best (ignoring the injustice aspect) to stick with your core Quins team. At least Ponty are sticking to their principles -like them or not! The decline of Gog from Scarlets captain under Easterby to not being even a bencher shows how things change under a new coach to.Tough on him.

Why do people think Gog is dropped?

He's missed a few weeks of rugby because of injury, Pitman is the form 8 and Pivac probably wants Gog to have a run to get match fit without being thrown in the deep end and facing Toulon - even from the bench.

He'll more than likely be in the mix for Leicester next week providing he come through the match today without any reaction to his injury.

It's a long season. It seems that Pivac is aware of this and doesn't want to push players if they're returning from injury. Earle played a match for the Drovers when returning from injury. KP played a match for the Drovers when looking for some form, look where he is this weekend?!

To me it seems that Pivac is using our feeder clubs as a way of rehabilitating players and/or getting them to find form. Isn't that what they're there for, at least until a full-fledged 'A' side is up and running?

I'm not sure whether people don't listen or what - Wayne was clear that he would use the feeder clubs correctly I.E Bringing players back from injury. I fully expect to see Cawdor get a run in the RFC to complete his rehab.

.
It is just my opinion but I do feel that Rob has clearly dropped down the pecking order behind Aaron Shingler in Wayne's selection, and it is very different from him being club captain last couple of seasons -albeit playing out of position last year to help the club -as he is a good guy. It is just a shame as Rob loyally played out of position at 8 rather than his proper place as 6 and so has lost presence and continuity in that 6 role. However it is a long season as you rightly say and Shings may well be tied up with Wales so Rob has another chance to re-establish himself.
