Another year has already started...new records churning out...some released some set for release some just being worked on...
so what are you most looking forward to this year? Here are mine: 'My Love is Cool' by Wolf Alice - set for release 22nd June 2015. been impressed with this band since hearing them first when they supported Manic Street Preachers on their Rewind the Film tour. Impressive EPs with them, but now they have announced an LP is complete and set for release. They have stated that they have experimented with different styles and sounds for the new record. Graveyard of the Atlantic by The Ataris - a band that have completely changed from their pop punk days, now mixing their love of bands such as ALL / Jawbreaker / Replacements / Swervedriver and mixing it with their love of bands such as Mono / Explosions in the Sky / Mogwai / as well as the story telling of Tom Waits / Springsteen. They had a track on their 2001 release, End is Forever, 'Fast Times at Drop-out High' which they have now re-recorded showing the big difference which you can download for free via their bandcamp page as well as 3 other tracks that may appear on the new record (as well as over 50 old demos and live recordings). Just like their other albums this album will again be recorded completely using 2 inch analog tape using vintage equipment. Hopefully this will be released this year. 'Day is My Enemy' by Prodigy - One thing we all know from this band, and that's when prodigy say something, they pretty much [beep]ing mean it! "Dance music across all types has become formula-based," Howlett told the magazine. "It's 'Here's your drum fill, here's your build.' All that DJ bollocks and tutorials on YouTube shit. This album is totally organic. Pure violent energy." They themselves are dubbing this new release their most violent yet...should be a pretty mental release! 'as yet untitled' by Descendents - Bill Stevenson said the Descendents have started recording new material for an album he would like to have out by this time next year (2015). And in their tried and true Descendents fashion, there is no real “direction” the band is aiming for, he said. “We don’t plan things out that way,” Stevenson said. “We’re four songwriters. Everybody brings in their best songs. We play them in such a way that excites us and that’s the way you have it. 'Heaven Adores You' by Elliott Smith - unheard music from the documentary / film of the same title. Not seen the film yet, not sure if it has had a UK release...but they are hoping to have a soundtrack out soon with all unheard material. 'as yet untitled' by The Replacements - they are again on tour in the US and a new album is "looking likely"! If they bring this tour to the UK I am there! I'd be over joyed for a new release. 'Untitled New EP' by My Bloody Valentine - they have been in the studio since the autumn working on a new EP...hoping for 2015 release. This will be great. Looking forward to this. 'I Wasnt Born to Lose You' by Swervedriver - set for a March release plus they will be playing in Clwb Ifor Bach in May! im going! also looking forward to releases this year by Ride and Slowdive. My main three at present are:
Sufjan Stevens - Carrie & Lowell Death Cab for Cutie - Kintsugi And So I Watch You From Afar - Heirs I'm sure there'll be stuff later on the in the year that i don't even know is coming out yet. Anticipating a "Brand New" album or at least hoping they release one in 2015. |

I love "Moaning Lisa Smile". They are playing round the corner from me in Cardiff in April. Tempted to go. Other than that Death Cab's new one as Minded said. |

yes in the globe are'nt they? Moaning Lisa Smile is a fine track, but 'Blush' is my favorite track by them. slow quiet start to a big finish. that track played live was very impressive.

agreed! think i read somewhere they were going back to a different direction they COULD have taken after Deja Entendu so it will sound like album 2 or 3. Looking forward to hearing it...but as you say, Daisy was poor by their standards...couple of decent tracks, but after Devil and God, it was a let down.

I doubt you'll get the RSD version with it limited to 1500, unless you fancy paying through the nose for it on ebay later. I'm waiting for standard release in May.

i have been lucky on RSDs in the past where i have wanted a certain release, only At the Drive In i have failed with. Dinosaus Jr only had a 100 releases, Primal Scream only had a 100 - managed to get them...so my record is decent on success and fails so far! It will probably be a fail, just going to have to wait and see! It depends how much it will be as well...i tend to find that regardless of how many there are, if they are priced £30+ they tend to take their time clearing. At the Drive in i think was only £20, and that flew off the shelves everywhere. My Primal Scream and Dinosaur Jr ones though were £40. Wouldnt be surprised to see the Brand New one around £30-40. If i do fail, the re release will have to do. Have you been to Retro Vibe Music yet in Cardiff? |
