If you’re 19-20 years of ages and you’re in the academy and not pushing for a bench place or even a starting place. You shouldn’t be in the academy. I can give you 15 youngsters who would eat them and they have been overlooked it’s all politics and bullpoo.

Agreed, you should be on the fringes of the regional squad.

I think the fact that our youth players aren't allowed to play for their clubs when in the development pathway is so wrong.

Covid really messed up age group rugby, no one knows who would /has kicked on and who stood still and regressed. The dragons seem to have handled it the best tbh

I know for a fact that regions schedule mandatory gym sessions for players when club youth matches are played.

It's ridiculous. In Ireland the players continue to play for their clubs-that way everybody gets scouted, competition is enhanced and players continually challenged to perform. No pathway is closed-just one reason the All Ireland Leaugue is so vibrant.
In Wales the closed shop prevails.People employed in the academies too concerned looking after their jobs,so avoid having their judgement questioned. Some of these people have been in cushy numbers for decades.

This is one of the reasons I'd give Peel a bit more slack, in previous years when we haven't been able to spend we've been able to dip into our academy and RFC to supplement squad gaps with people like Foxy, Scott, Priestland, North, Cawdor, Rob, Samson, Elias etc. playing regularly at a young age and delivering.

This season the only player under 23 who's played regular is Costelow, and it's not a selection thing because the quality doesn't seem to be there.

On the plus side the Scarlets u16's results have improved so far this season and Coleg Sir Gar are top of the college league at the moment so fingers crossed it's improving.

Watched Quins game yesterday v Newport.

Scarlets boys involved

Teddy Leatherbarrow no 7.
Had a great game, a typical robust open side who scored an excellent individual try.

Scott Williams no 13.
Played approx 55-60 mins. Made a couple of powerful breaks and had a good game.

Sam O’Connor (Prop)
Came on 10 mins into 2nd half. Struggled a little in the scrum.

Lewis Morgan (Hooker)
Lineout was poor, carried well in the loose.

Evan Jones (Scrum Half)
Came on 10 mins into 2nd half, did well considering he was on the back foot most of the time.

Quins better side first half, Newport pack too strong 2nd half.
