American road trip - Matt Frei Watch from 24 minutes to 28 minutes Uninsured american man has heart attack, is charged $56,000 for his 36 hours in hospital then told he needs cancer treatment, that will cost him $110,000 Meanwhile his property value has fallen to $130,000 , so even if he sells his home and lives in a box, he still cant afford to get treatment This isnt an anti american thread, its an anti mitt romnesia thread.
Under obamacare he would be covered as would approx 50 million uninsured americans, romnesia wants to abolish all of obamacare. Thankfully in Wales and Great Britain, this is something the visionary Lloyd george began 100 years ago with contributions, taxation and the welfare state and the great Neu Bevan fully implemented with the NHS 60 odd years ago! This election is massively important to all americans and will probably have a lot of repercussions for us too! |

Perhaps the Obama camp should broadcast this vid, if they've not done so already.

I asked an American visitor te other day why the US was so against universal healthcare and his answer was that Americans don't want their money paying for other people to receive free treatment.

Yes. And introducing a base level health care effectively decreases the prestige, status and impact of your health care package within your salary so a lot are against it for even this incredibly petty reason. It's almost unbelievable - and they think they're the greatest country in the world? Land of opportunity? Sure, the opportunity to be as selfish as possible at the detriment of others. On the plus side perhaps it has made people appreciate the NHS a bit more in this country - despite it's failings, which I'm sure you know a lot about Abbey , we at least have affordable health care for our population.

And the irony is of course that those against it, as they don't wish to pay for to help those who can't afford it, are also pretty fundamentalist Christians. I'm sure charity and unselfishness is a minor theme in the bible somewhere?
Absolute hypocrites. In case anyone can't tell I absolutely detest the Christian right in the states - and yes, I do think both their religious and political views contribute towards them being some of the most unpleasant human beings in "civilised" society. The worrying thing is how many of them there are and the power they have.

And an even bigger irony is the $56,000 is enough to give the patient another heart attack.

Indeed. Andrew Landsley has set in stone changes that'll destroy the NHS in England for pure ideological reasons. Private companies are already siphoning off funds from the service in order to pay their shareholders (Virgin, Serco, Circle, Spire and Quest to name but five). Did anyone realise that in the small print of the English NHS reforms are that GPs will be allowed to throw out patients from their practise lists if they become chronically ill? So don't get diabetes, cancer or arthritic if you live across the Severn Bridge. Mind you, GPs are mercenaries and you can't get any of them to attend meetings unless you pay them. I could tell you some stories about GPs and their greedy ways!! |

Don't suppose said individual had insurance cover then Healthcare insurance in the states is more important than your buildings and contents insurance as there is no NHS style cover, yet so many Americans neglect having it, but are the first to complain when they need it (and don't have it).

My Wife's GP tried charging her £20 recently for just signing a referral letter that she was required to obtain and send to BUPA, so that they could confirm her back treatment cover. She'd used her private healthcare cover two years previous for something esle, yet wasn't asked by her previous GP (she's changed GPs since). She questioned it, especially as she was required to pay the initial excess/deposit to BUPA, and hadn't been asked to pay the GP before, and they quickly removed the £20 charge!!! She's since reported the issue to BUPA, and they are investigating the reasoning!

Many of those radicals arent religious at all, they just say they are. They pervert the religion for their own ends. They go against totally the true meaning of their religion.Im pretty sure the sermon on the mount didnt go "Thou shalt ignore the sick, shun the needy and deprive the poor." In fact the opposite was the case as he fought for the poor the sick and needy, against the tyrannical kings. Its a shame as Christian churches do monumental work worldwide , yet its overshadowed by these idiots.
The religions just as the power and wealth in society at large needs to be rested away from the loud mouthed war mongering radicals and back to the moderate peaceful , hard working ,silent majority. Easier said that done, but lets at least set our agenda before we chart the course.
If Jesus himself attended the tea party all cheering for letting 50 million sick poor people receive no health care, Im pretty sure he would react as he did with the temple traders back in the old country, tables up!!!

OAM is dead right here - and not only can many not afford the insurance, even those who can often find that ONCE THEY GET ILL their premiums go through the roof (a bit like what happens over here if you have lots of claims on your car insurance). Bloody great, innit! So when you actually need the insurance, you find you can't afford it any longer. (FYI, part of Obama's policy is precisely to stop the companies increasing the premiums in this way/ for that reason). |
