On BBC 1 tomorrow night 10.35pm programme is investigating the state of the Regions! On the way into Parc y Scarlets before the Northampton game we were interviewed by Gareth Lewis, he asked us why we supported the Scarlets and our reasons in doing so! Will definitely be watching to see if we make the cut and if anyone else was interviewed and their views of our beloved Scarlets!

Probably be the usual doom and gloom regarding finances whilst everything will be (financially) rosy in Swansea and Cardiff.

They're talking about funding the regions with different amounts.

wales are up to 6th in the world (4th place in the world cup)

we're also playing some of the most exciting rugby

Surely the upcoming sell outs for the 3 six nations games will bolster wru coffers and again should lead to more funding for the regions. thats 3 x 72500 (used to be 74500, not sure where 2000 seats disappeared too) 217500 sold. average is about £65 each. thats about £14 million in tickets alone. throw in another £5 million for corporate hospitality, thats £19 million even before you talk food/beverage/programmes/jerseys to 217500 people etc etc theyll have a full autumn programme and wales v barbarians will sell well in june as its shane final farewell...plus the ever fattening tv contracts and advertising deals....

IF we can win more than 3 games we will be in with a chance at the title.
a winning side with huge tv exposure, playing exciting rugby with a young vibrant team is what the public will pay to see.we provide the players we have a right to a bigger slice of these increasing profits

heck the wru bought a pub last year , admittedly their pumping more into the grass roots, the academies, the facilities and y gogledd, but its also time they stumped up more cash to the regions

ultimately though we must not treat each other as enemies, we are on the same team. the wru want to try and ensure the funding goes into the areas theyd like, but wed also like to see their money go where wed like. our interests are shared. so we must collaborate better.

personally i feel that getting into the communities, the schools, the clubs more and more in a substantial rather than gimmicky way, is the way forward. that takes, time , effort, people, resources and money

Got to say that I thought we came out of that looking pretty good. Although the barn was surely a brainchild of The Jumper and not the current Chief Exec?

I actually sympathise with the other regional fans (ospreys especially) as its a made up brand and feels a bit contrived. the scarlets was literally forged in the furnace back in the industrial revolution days. we're priveliged to have such a heritage and in the end even in this so called cutting edge age of business speak and marketing gurus, its that brand that was built by all those legends thats helped us survive today. were standing on the shoulders of giants boisClap

the non existent marketing budget explains a lot and was a bit of a shock.

Yes that got me but just easy journalism to present it the way they did. I think the weakness of the programme is that they kind of glossed over what's happening at Y Parc because it didn't suit the story they wanted to show.

they didnt do too bad a job. I think they were careful to try and give a more balanced view
in the end rog lewis said no region had come back to him with a business plan. why? Id also add why is he sat on his wru throne and not thrashing out a better deal with these regions

I suspect he is happy with the status quo in some ways. wru profits are up. the academies are producing talent and wales are playing well theyre up to 6th in the world and crowds are good even in a recession

mind you the 6 nations is a crown jewel (so many idiots have tried to tamper with but its brand is too powerful)at over 62000 per game, In terms of average crowds  its the highest attended international sports tournament in the world of sport.

is rog lewis that bothered if the regions dont get too powerful? as long as they provide welsh players and develop academy stars? maybe hes biding his time to bring in some central or joint central contracts

Any TV programme has the opportunity to edit what people say.
The emphasis was on the Hughes family from Bridgend who will now be going to watch the Ospreys(I think)
The Scarlets development, in the main, was brushed aside.
They showed, but then ignored, the Scarlets increased attendance.
They showed the huge figures for the Irish provinces who have been the main teams in Ireland for decades and compared them with the Welsh Regions who started 8 years ago?
A TV programme that was presented, after heavy pre advertising, to get viewers, rather than supporting Welsh Regional Rugby.
Life is not a rehearsal, make sure you support the Scarlets NOW

they showed the figures, they did mention there was an upsurge st scarlets though they didnt expand on it much. It would have been nice to hear about our other events drawing in revenues and families etc they mentioned the barn. lets be fair its only 30 minute show thats an overview of regional rugby. we fared much better than the other 3 regions, who had virtually no input.

instead of being scared of being edited badly, maybe theyd be better off biting the bullett and coming out to discuss these matters. they havent got much to loose? theyre stadiums are half empty anyway

the figures were 9202 for us 7518 for blues 7146 for ospreysand  5440 for dragons
whereas leinster were over 23000 average and munster over 19000
so depsite our growth , overall the weslh sides are way behond the top irish sides

BUT one point they missed was we are playing more matches with the lv cup and the italian sides, so at least the crowd aggregates are up pverall
