Is that a 6-2 split on the bench? So, they intend to attack via the forwards, to begin with anyway?
Very experienced squad except for bench backs. I really don't rate Mako V in the scrums - he's at 45 degrees even before the bind - any half decent ref will penalise him all afternoon, but will we get one? Not sure who it is, or if he knows his scrums.

Not a huge amount of experience on the English bench. I'm glad Lawes is out, he has always been a menace to us.

Would have prefered Sheedy to start personally with Bigger coming on in the second half to close the game out, I hope Foxy shows some better form than he has shown us other wise rest pick themselves.
As for England hopefully we can rile Sinckler and Farrell cause disruption there and that we get a rub of the ref at scrumtime cant remember I'd Cardiff have overhead cameras because Twickers really highlights his illegal entry to the scrum and boring in. |

EJ has definitely picked a team to beat us upfront.
While I really rate Ford and Slade, without a bruiser in between them I think their skills are slightly less intimidating. Cause they’ve got three passers and then a passing fullback, but no one to really fix and threaten the defensive line. 6-2 split means they want to dominate the last 20 mins physically. Is it bad that I’ve basically never heard of most of their bench

Pleased to see Cory Hill in place of the unimpressive Rowlands - though I'd have chosen Ball, myself. Probably wise to avoid picking Halfpenny after another head knock, but forces the choice of Biggar at 10 for his goal-kicking - and he's been very quiet so far this season. He owes the coaches a big one - as does Foxy.
It's definitely winnable from a Wales POV... pressure Mako in the scrums, send some big guys down Ford's channel often, no silly penalties or cards... England are always tough opponents, but aren't on top form yet this 6N. We'll see what they bring.

I think they’ve done that because Wales don’t play a very expansive game. Would love Sanjay to run some kicks back like he did on the last Lions tour.

Let's hit them from the off & start well. Build a lead & let them chase from there.

Well selections have been kind to us with Lawes being a miss for their lineout. I am stunned but not surprised that Eddie has stuck with Daly as for me Malins is a far better all round FB. Foxy is clearly a high risk selection but we do have Halaholo available and we have already seen that Pivac is not afraid to act quickly & decisively.
Usually by this time of the week reality starts to hit home about our chances but I have to say I do really fancy us this weekend. Disciplinje & lineout; discipline & lineout; dis...........

Dead ruck the first few rucks, don't compete & get the tackler rolling away. Hit them hard, don't let their ball carriers get over the gain line. And as GPR says, discipline....don't let the referee the opportunity to make the decision. Also watch Youngs on the old quick tap, probably his best part of his game.

I’d say Biggar is picked on reputation too.
However, both of them have a *reputation* for pulling it out of the bag in big games. They’ve both won and lost games against England before and - to an extent - know that this time their places are up for grabs. Foxy also has the left boot for exits.

This was the best part of this selection for me. Hill is a very tidy player, versatile, good workhorse, good carrier tidy lineout forward etc Covers back and second row. Botham is a tight call but on form deserved Im convinced foxy will play 13 for much of the game. North looks a good fit for 12 too. That way around it makes more sense to me, foxy has had experience at 12 too so can fit in there when needed, he has the big left peg, the huge fend and usually a great defender too. Be nice to see him find his old eye for the gap too. Halahola is a class replacement for both centres. The back 3 is very dangerous. They had to start biggar for his kicking really, but if he doesnt pull the strings for this explosive back line he'll get the shepherds hook again, the thought of sheedy conducting this back line is mouth watering. Wales havent had enough credit thus far, especially for discipline. We have generally been a clean team over the years so the tightening of rules and third ref may continue to work in our favour. Big game for Liam, starting at 15. We all know what threat he offers but he has to keep his head. England have players who can be targeted as well.
I think Sheedy's nervous goal kicking against Scotland was a concern so must be a part of reason going with Biggar. We know they'll target the lineout and I think chip and grubber kicks behind the centres aplenty. Foxy will bring defensive organisation even if he is not at his best. Be interesting to see how much ball actually gets to the incredibly dangerous wingers through Foxy and North who aren't exactly the most fluid distributors but we'll see. If they both run over their opposite numbers I won't complain!

North and foxy arent known as great long passers, but they are good at the pop pass where they take the crash ball and offload in the tackle, Gibbs was good at this too, though he too didnt otherwise offer great distribution out wide.
