I suppose Rolland and the IRB law made this inevitable.

There was no effort to charge down the kick, just a dive at his legs with no arms, an illegal hit.

I don't know what you want me to say or do ... Apologize for every refereeing mistake or for ever time a Ref/AR is unsighted, ....

If he didn't see it .... He couldn't give it !

I bet he doesn't get booed when he next refs at Y Parc for not awarding Australia a Scrum ! Wink

Question Incidentally .. if Palau had dived to charge the Kick with his feet first, what would you have given Question

Right Frame by Frame with explanations !

Left side of screen ... Polota-Nau's Left Hand which discounts leading with the shoulder !

Right hand now in view with Pocock arriving, meanwhile Shane's leg has gone between Poloto-Nau's outstretched arms.

Polota-Nau has contacted Shanes legs but both arms clearly in view in front of his body. Pocock arriving & the impact "seems" to tip up Shane !

I suppose you can't blame refs they must lead such sad lives.  Born -> picked on at school -> take up train spotting -> Referee Camp, toasting marshmallows around the campfire, singin nursery rhymes.

Sob sob, it just makes me weep every time I see one run on to the field. Bless em. CryCry

I was so moved by their plight once upon a time, I even bought Chris White a pint.

So we agree that it wasn't foul play then??  It's just that it looks worse than it was.

At the end of the day you can debate the rights and wrongs til the cows come home, it'll be a hot day in hell before people don't have a go at refs.

I wil NOT be buying drinks for everyone tomorrow. ONLY Geordie Scarlet. My original statement was taken out of context.

True, but how much are players analysed?? IMO it shouldn't just be the players performances that are analysed - but also the person responsible for upholding the laws of the game - both for players safety and for the good of the game.

It's really infuriating that nothing gets done. Let's face it though, a ref can be a villain depending what side your on.

Scarletman I was not having a go at you I was asking because you see things from a more detatched view point, as you say you can see the tacklers hands in the freeze frame, but when you see it in normal speed it looks a lot worse. By the way John I dont want to cause arguments over something that cant be changed. I was thinking Barnes owes the Scarlets one for the forward pass he missed in the LV at northampton, I remember it bet he dont.

Believe me Baz I wasn't starting an arguement, I am just getting a bit peeved that Referees in general are getting blamed for everything, by people who watch through a Fans view. It's very hard to get ex players in to the Refereeing Circiut nowadays, & contrary to popular belief, Refs do NOT get paid a fee until quite high up the ladder. Most Referees give up 4 hours on a Saturday afternoon, for 45p a mile expenses. & then get faced with torrents of criticism & abuse to boot ! As I have stated in many threads since Samgate, Refs are human and there are many factors that come into play every second of a match that all influence the game in some way or another ... What we as referees want is consistency... Players consistently onside ... Players consistently syaying on their feet ... Players consistently NOT slowing the ball down ... Players consistently..... you can see where I am going here ....

I am now looking forward to chewing up the Lawbook with you in Northampton over a beer or two (medication permitting) ! That's if Sal hasn't killed me in the car on the way up first !Wink
