I am sick to death with Reading generalised rugby commentary which highlights the plight of low attendances at all regions . I am not saying we are munster we probably never will be but not once have I read anything positive about our increase in attendance in all competitions , our family approach off the field and our development programme on it . We have all been through tough times recently but why doesn't someone report positively on the way things are for us and use them as a model . The ospreys back to flat caps and working class boys was a joke and insulting . They would have been much better to admit they were going to go down our route . I am sure with shane in charge and players like tipuric they will have a rebirth but for once it would be nice for someone outside the region to acknowledge what we have done . In the current climate we have excelled ...

Good points Huw, but I really do think that it is down to the marketing guys to get their message across. That's what they should be good at and that's what they should do !

yeah agreed. lets flip the script. all this poor old wales, chippy nonsense is yesterdays news
we have a world class stadium with fantastic onsite training and corporate facilities too

were too obsessed with melancholic bad news. I was the first to criticize when I didnt feel the scarlets were making the best of their resources, but in recent times, crowds are averaging over 9000, the events programme has expanded even more rapidly and the development has accelerated hugely too. so its loads of exciting positive stuff. welsh rugby and maybe welsh media needs to remember its just as important to discuss good news as bad.

as my quack used to say, proaction beats reaction every timeTongue

Good news does not sell newspapers or make good stories on the tv news bulletins.

That's a great point actually, I know the Liberty has had big concerts but as it's a predominantly football domain it doesn't really fit in with the jacks rugby business plan. What the sell out darts event showed is that Parc Y Scarlets/The local authority have a facility that can put on this type of event and make a profit out of it, and the people I know who went who aren't interested in rugby were full of praise for the evening. I've a few photos but they're too big to insert, and as i'm a bit of a technophobe I don't have the patience to sort it;)

Valid points Huwbach and we wont get much credit tonight you can count on it, but a quarter of pro welsh rugby in the Dragons get around 5,000? and the 2 biggest cities in Wales, close to strong rugby areas, attract pathetic crowds considering the population bases. We are very much bucking the trend and sadly Welsh pro rugby is in a bad place.

You're right tim it is sad and this thread was not meant to be 'look how good we are' because we are a long way off . It just nobody is highlighting what we have tried to do. Maybe tonights programme will shed some light into where we are going as a nation. IMO the blues and o's have tried to do things to big too fast and it's backfired . Nobody wants to sit in an empty environment , those who decided to make us a smaller venue did well . Get the facilities right ( new or old ) develop welsh players who will play for the shirt regardless of salary and work hard at connecting with the local community at a price that's fair but profitable. It's a big ask but I hope for the love of The game Wales can steer it's regions in the direction of sustainabilty and success.

Well said. This was the first thing that popped into my head whilst watching the BBC Wales news too.

It amazes me how many welsh people can travel to Scotland or Ireland, 30,000 to 40,000, on matchdays pubs and clubs all over Wales are full, roads are quiet everyone watches Wales, 70,000 regular in Cardiff, yet they dont follow the same players in their regional colours. Baffles me.

You only have to watch the programme that's on in 40 minutes to see why. Would we watch the Swansea Reds at the Liberty?

But we seem to be really picking things up off the field yet this gets washed over.

Yeah Ive seen the preview of the guy in Bridgend talking, it would be interesting to hear a cross-section of opinion, but I'm expecting the BBC to do another over the top sensationalised load of bollox.

Sadly the BBC make no revenue on advertising from the games. This is a point that has been mentioned before on here, if Sky were to get the rights to broadcast the Rabo then perhaps matches would be marketted better, raise expectations and thus push up attendances.

There aren't many quality people at BBC Wales Sport, so tonight will be puddle-deep analysis with a pre-determined narrative.
