should they get country's like Spain, Netherlands, Portugal etc to extend the numbers up to 7,8, or even 10. or just keep it how it is now

I dont think the other teams would be able to compete....plus it would mean have international matches everyweekend of the year almost

Spain, Portugal, Romania, Georgia, Russia, Belgium are the next highest IRB ranked sides but need to start playing some friendlies etc first...they are well behind the Top 6.

All for spreading the word though.

I dont think that they would go to 2 tiers as it would be the end of the 6 nations ....Looking at the financial side alone and its a no goer....but if it did go ahead , then it would be a golden opportunity to restructure the season

With the exception of Georgia, I don't think any other team in Europe would come anywhere near being able to compete with the present 6 nations sides. Even Georgia I fell would struggle but would sneak the odd result like Italy have.

The problem is that Italy were primed for the 6 nations in the years leading up to their entry. there were regular friendlies between them and the 5 nations sides, giving them a chance to develop. Unfortunately since the game has gone professional, the large unions generally don't want to play friendly games against the 'minnows' of World rugby. Wales for example play one game a year against a Pacific Island side, and every 4 years or so send a development side to Japan/North America. The same can be said about most of the top teams. In this respect professionalism has killed off the global development of the game as it will be hard for a nation outside the 6N or tri nations to develop into challengers in the world game.
