Give Patch as much time as he needs.

A very sensible suggestion.
I agree with giving time BUT in the current climate with players having life limiting issues caused by head injuries earlier in their lives, surely clubs and unions must be considering whether they have a duty of care to stop someone playing when they have had such issues. To be honest the same goes for the other mentioned. 3 weeks, 6 months, 2 years matters not if the damage is already done but will only manifest later in life.

My 3 favourite scarlets players, shingler, patch and cubby...Exciting quick multi skilled flair players, but shingler has been missing for ages, patch in and out for over 2 years and cubby hasnt been himself for a few years. Its tough on these players as a rugby career is so much shorter than most other sports careers , even boxers last longer. The world is changing and the days of young men sacrificing their health for a perceived cause are diminishing and rightly so. I hope they take every precaution possible and follow the science. But in reality its a high impact sport and they cant mitigate all the risks. If and when they do hang up their studs, all 3 may have the options to work in coaching, or in commentary/media or sports in some capacity. But its an emotive thing, to work their whole lives for something and they have to give it up so early. Whenever a player retires young I think back to something phil bennet said after his last match for wales when they won the grand slam against France. it went something like this, "We were absolutely shattered in the changing room afterwards, bodies everywhere...But as I looked across the room I saw gareth looking back at me, we didnt say anything we both smiled a knowing smile and we knew in that moment it was over."

Very well constructed point made there.

From Delaney today..

GD: “We’ll start with Rhys Patchell and Aaron Shingler. Both are making definite improvements. Rhys is in our return-to-play group, we have a plan over the next six weeks to see how we can keep extending him, getting him up into training and into games. That is well under control, he is in and around the environment and contributing.”

“Shings is making real progress. We have worked through probably the toughest bit and now it is about reconditioning him. He is running three to four times a week. Like Patch, he is a great man to have about and you can just see the spark is back, he knows he has been through a pretty tough journey and is on the way back. Obviously, it is a fluid situation. We need to get a decent baseline for Aaron over the next four weeks, it is almost like a pre-season for him. We have to look after him the right way. “

That is very heartening message.

Very good to read what Glenn had to say shows how we are dealing with concussion properly and giving players as much time as they need. They are obviously treating each player as individuals and tailoring return to play protocols to those individuals.

The health of the players is clearly paramount as it should be.

It another example of how far we have come and what a professional outfit we now are.
She asks why i still can't answer. I guess its in the blood.
