Looking at three options to get to match.

1. Fly
2. Hire a mini bus
3. Try and wangle a works 12 seater crew bus

Spoke to pimpernel about this and i see it this way. With the average cost of flights over the easter weekend being around £200 ten of us would spend between us £2,000. Have got mini bus hire quotes at around £290 for weekend that equates to £29 each the ferry, petrol and tolls all then get divided by ten so we could be looking at £90 each.

I have approached my contracts manager regarding borrowing a 12 seater crew bus if it gets approved by the M.D. I may be able to have one for nothing but just may have to take out insurance for weekend as we are outside the U.K. My C.M. is rugby mad as well and off the record if we top it up in England i would be allowed to put it through my expenses.

This is the downside we would have to leave from london.

What i mean is that Baz was going to drive down there maybe he could park up outside my place and jump in bus that would save him full ferry fare and to be honest you have to go through London to get to Dover.

The monetary side is to make it worthwhile we realistically need 11 people because expenses get divided by 10 to compensate for the fact whoever is driving doesn't pay. Only fair. (by the way i do not possess a driving licence so it aint me driving)

let me know of interest as if it seems that not enough will make it i'll book a flight.

Highbury - you could have a problem there! I haven't tried it myself, but I understand that unlike in the UK you cannot drive a minibus in France with only a usual car drivers licence. The UK has a derrogation from the rule about minibuses so long as you are over a certain age - something like 29 or so if I remember correctly, and you only drive in the UK. To do the same in Europe I believe you need a PSV type licence, although you can drive up to something like a 7 seater over there OK. I know I have a certificate to drive schoolkids around the UK in the school minibus but even that isn't good enough to take the minibus to France (I had hoped to take a trip to Geneva for Cern but couldn't).

Please don't take my word for it, but I'd certainly check the licence situation before you progress this idea too far. Sorry to put a dampener on things as it sounded a crackingly good plan!

Again check as far as i am aware as long as you are carrying non paying passengers you should be alright in a 12 seater minibus and as u say it is hired.I drive my own truck over to europe on occasions and i have to carri my original vehicle documentation ie logbook, insurance, vosa have now brought out an E Ccertificate and vosa must be informed so they can issue an other form for the travel european authorisation.please check it out the french police are asseholes and if stoppede could prove quite costly.I am trying to organise a load for that weekendmyself so might cu there
