bridgend only had one prop on the bench, and everybody thought that if a team went to passive scrums they had to take a player off, but the ref disagreed.

Is Andrew Spowart a youngster who could develop or is he a more experienced player who gave us some desperately needed stability? Is he the 30 year old Andrew Rees-Spowart who has played some rugby league and we have turned to in desperation or is this a (very unlikely I know)younger namesake?

BRIDGEND 16-16 LLANELLI
05/04/2015

Bridgend Ravens battled back from a half time deficit against Llanelli to secure a draw at the Bridgend Ford Brewery Field.
The game was an end to end epic and could have gone either way, right up until the final kick of the game. Bridgend will be pleased with their second half showing, and will look to replicate that when they head to the Gnoll next weekend to face Carmarthen Quins in the Swalec Cup semi final.
The Ravens notched their first points with just over a minute on the clock thanks to a penalty from Owen Howe. Llanelli struck back shortly after with a penalty goal of their own from Wales U18 star Billy McBride.
Howe added two more penalties with one in reply from McBride before the games opening try.
The visitors only try of the match came from a scrum deep in the Ravens 22. An early engage saw Llanelli win a free kick which they tapped quickly and a simple move allowed Llanelli fullback Andrew Spowart to slice through the Bridgend defenders to score. McBryde added the conversion to put Llanelli in front for the first time in the match.
Llanelli fly half McBride added a penalty just before halftime to push the visitors into a 7 point lead at the break.
HT Bridgend Ravens 9-16 Llanelli
Llanelli dominated the opening 15 minutes of the second half but the Ravens defence was too strong and held out the visitors sustained efforts. A yellow card for Llanelli for a dangerous tackle allowed the Ravens to work their way into the Llanelli 22. An attempt at a driving maul was held out by the visitors and the ball was sent wide. Lightning wing Tom O'Flaherty was tackled into touch just short as the Ravens failed to take advantage of the extra man.
The visitors missed two shots at goal, the second effort proving costly for Llanelli. From the resulting 22 drop out, Bridgend got inventive. A short chip was collected by Adam O'Driscoll who stormed up-field. The scrambling Llanelli defenders were forced to concede a penalty which Chris Williams tapped quickly and the scrum half raced toward the visitors 22 before he was eventually brought down. Henri Williams picked up from the base of a ruck and galloped over the line to score the Ravens first and only try of the match. Howe converted to level the scores with less than 10 minutes of regulation time remaining.
The hosts went searching for a score to sneak a win but were eventually unsuccessful. Howe missed two long range penalties late on as the match ended in a draw.
