I'm pretty sure the answer to that is proportionally, indirect taxes cost lower earners more than direct taxation. We would all pay the same amount of VAT on an item, but the less you earn, the greater part of your disposable income it becomes. I hope that makes sense.

The left dont seem too keen on starmer, his support of the establishment to extradite assange is a major bugbear, his harsh anti brexit stance was seen as anti democratic etc...Lots seem to think hes an establishment figure

I must say I find it hard to picture Keir in charge but it's very early days in his leadership yet. Can he be an inspiring and popular leader?
As a side note, my former MP in Oxford East, Anneliese Dobbs, is now the Shadow Chancellor. She seems to have had a very quick rise through the ranks.

The 'Left' have lost the last two elections, the last one very badly indeed, when the Tories were very vulnerable. They are now so far behind, they may not win the next election. Political commentators point out that the opposition typically make up about 30-40 seats in an election. Labour are currently 80 behind. |

I’d vote kier, he’s not flashy or charismatic but he seems sensible. I’m not impressed with his part in previous prosecutions but he’d be a decent pm

I like him so far: really strong cross-examining style and seems serious and sensible. Maybe what we need. Certainly a contrast between him and BJ!

Not only a contrast with Boris but also with Jeremy. Hopefully Kier can steer a line with far greater party discipline but preserving many of the policies which sought to address the great inbalances in our society which Corbyn/McDonald championed. If this pandemic teaches us one huge thing it is that very often it is the lesser rewarded & dare I say it less appreciated who really step up to the plate in times of crisis.
