Top player and top captain for Wales and the Lions. One of the most impactful players on the pitch for his defence, intensity and leadership.

It initially was a surprise but, on reflection, I think we can all see why from Fscarlet's diagram. Has been very much a superb modern player but guy's paid a price for that. Hope he stays in the game as he's a very articulate pundit with useful insight.

Talk on social media as if the guy has died. He’s got plenty of years ahead of him as a pundit.

Huge blow for Welsh rugby. The most successful Lions captain of the modern era and for me the best Welsh back-row player I've seen in my lifetime.

You and I have disagreed over this one many times.I am sorry to see that he has had to retire due to a combination of injuries suffered over many years. Always a staunch Gatland man and gave his all for the Welsh shirt.

I don't think Wales or indeed the Blues will miss him that much in all fairness with the vast array of talent available in the back row.He wouldn't, for instance, get into the best Welsh back row I have seen in my lifetime.
He's in a different league to all the other contenders currently at 7

Agree superb player best ever Welsh 7.
