Any news on any people linked to the top job yet? I would imagine the interview process/ discussions have begun?

Thanks for sharing. The hike in playing budget is fascinating.

Key points (with apologies for Chris for shameless copy & paste...Embarrassed):
  • Scarlets
    • Player budget "just shy of £7m" - that's a significant uplift, even allowing for record player inflation
    • Shirt sponsorship for next season at record levels
    • 2018/19 squad @ 50 players + Academy
    • U23 squad will be contracted players (inc Academy) - will play early in season (up to end of AIs?), players placed with Prem farm clubs for rest of season
    • Target to be finalists in Champs Cup within 3 years
  • PRO14
    • Breaking away from 6Ns/Lions management has given needed focus
    • P14 revenues due to double in 3 years
    • 16 teams would be optimal for league, focus on SA for now (maybe N America in future)
    • Premier Sports will offer special TV packages for season ticket holders & community clubs
  • WRU
    • CEO's role is to maximise revenue to increase the possibilities in Welsh rugby (not to run Welsh rugby) - Martyn Phillips is great at this, 'monetising non-rugby events' at MS
    • Unlikely to see P14 Final at MS as risk is still too great - financially better off getting better income from other events & P14 maximising revenue by regularly returning to Dublin
    • Judgement Day was Roger Lewis's brainchild - is popular with players, & Regions see benefit of exposure to wider day-trip 'event' public, but no decision yet on whether it will continue
    • Growing trust between WRU & PRW/Regions means equity buy-in by WRU unnecessary (excepting Dragons) - clubs converting equity to shares is key step in resetting constitutions of each business to make future investment more attractive

Really positive statements and very welcome transparency in all dealings. We have something very special in Crys16 (if you're not a member yet, why not?!) and the direction of travel for all of Welsh rugby is so encouraging - we're in good hands. Hug

Cheers for the info. Yea using the principality stadium is a risk so why not host at CCS? Can fill that surely? Love the idea season ticket holders get a subscription discount great thinking

Thanks for posting that Nobby, I am a member of Crys but living so far West can't make it to meetings.

Things are looking very positive especially the points for the Scarlets, I love the target of being CC finalists within 3 years.

Can't really argue with the risk of hosting Pro 14 final at the MS but I would love to see Judgement
Day held on a Saturday in September when Cardiff is nice weather wise & all sides have something to play for...

Lam and Rennie both started new jobs this past season at teams with more money than us. Can't imagine they'd be an option.

We will probably be under immense pressure by the WRU to employ a Welshman as head coach (just read their comments about not enough quality, wanting regions to develop coaches etc). If we do that then that will be the demise of the scarlets. The new coach must be someone from the Southern Hemisphere who is known for fast-flowing rugby, and has connections with some talented players from NZ (that’s if Stevo is unavailable due to joining Pivac)
Sean Holley and the Ospreys surely was the last winner? And be fair, he coached temporarily at the Scarlets when to be fair, we played some great running rugby.

We're streets ahead of where we were when Sean was here temporarily, and that's why we need someone experienced that is going to be able to take us up to the next level from where Wayne has left off.

We've done the jobs for the boys and local coaches to death over the years, and having Wayne at the region has just shown how important and vital it is that the we find and recruit the right coach for the role.
Scarlets!!!

After what has seemed like a thousand false dawns, I actually do believe that the Welsh game (unions & regions) are finally working together with full commitment and trust.

Haven’t been as excited for a league season and European campaign since... well ever. Confident that the Scarlets will produce another fine season and let’s just hope that we can get that elusive Welsh Heineken Cupwin before Wayne moves on.

The WRU are working hand-in-glove with the Regions now - they want jointly to develop home-grown talent in players as well as coaching staff, but they're entirely realistic about how they need to be grown, not just parachuted into top jobs because of their nationality, whether or not they've previously had opportunities. I don't think any previous incumbents need apply.

Both Union and Club will consider what's best to maximise performance against potential first and foremost, but growing a team of Welsh lieutenants under a strong, empowering head coach has to be good practice across all 4 Regions. That's why I think Scarlets and WRU will be discussing what the best course of action for Stephen Jones as a potential Wales Head Coach - would he be best to move to the international set-up as Pivac's deputy and continue to learn from him at Test level, or would he/Scarlets/Wales be better served by giving him the Head Coach opportunity in Llanelli.

A lot will depend on Stevo's ambitions and Pivac's persuasion, of course, but I think it's great that we can have such a joined-up, holistic approach in Welsh rugby. ClapClapClap

What about Milton Haig, seems to have achieved relative success in the lower levels of New Zealand club rugby and has done a more than decent job in charge of the Georgia national side. He’s been there a while now and the Scarlets job would probably appeal to him.

Interesting suggestion...can't say I know too much about him

Personally, I am not too certain that a Welsh coach could run the national team these days as we get rather tribal when things go wrong and the regional resentment then kicks in. If you have an outsider like Wayne Pivac it's not the same type of pressure on  the coach. So I am not sure if a Welshman proper will work as Wales coach through thick and thin times -just my personal view. Anyway it wont happen now for 5 years !
