I think this is very sad. To end a career in the middle of a tournament. Having said that, he could have waited until Sunday night.

What a random time to retire, after the first game of the six nations.

Godman is so much better than Parks it's unreal. Still, despite his incredible negative style of play, he has won games for Scotland.

He must have been dropped and/or distraught after last Saturday and retired as a result?

He is absolutely rubbish. But I feel sorry for him now. Poor bugger.

Also, this thread should have been called "Breaking News !! Also about the Blues !!"

Don't think he was totally rubbish but it is a bit sad to end it like this. It's Stephen Shingler I feel sorry for. He'd have been sorted regarding his international career.

I wil NOT be buying drinks for everyone tomorrow. ONLY Geordie Scarlet. My original statement was taken out of context.

I feel a pinge of guilt, I have lambasted his rather one dimensional game, but nothing personal. he seems a good bloke, bit sad way to go really. great kicker when hes on form. maybe he'll become a kicking coach one day, good luck to him

No, sorry i can't let that pass. World Class Phil is awful, truly awful. Not saying Dan was great but in no way was Godman better. They both had big weaknesses.

Sad way to go though. He is and always will be A Glasgow legend.

First of all hp18, well said. Parks had his critics for his complete devotion to the 10 man game but I have seen him do it very well and win both Glasgow and Scotland games by doing so - which has been no mean feat.

Secondly, I think both Ruaridh Jackson and Godman are better options at 10 for Scotland - at least they bring their backs onto the ball occasionally! In some ways, Scotland have been limited by their lack of options at 12 and being on the back foot so much - often giving Parks no choice but to kick, but he has always been inclined to take that as the first choice anyway. But it has to be said, that while limited, he did a job and did it well. For the future, your man Jackson has some serious potential IMO and it will be very interesting to see how he develops.

Godman is gone, unless Robbo goes crazy. Laidlaw and Weir with Jacko backing up are the current options. Scott at 12 should be tried asap.

What's happened to Godman then? I'm sure he was looking half decent not so long ago? And Scott who at 12?

Why do you feel sorry for him? If he wanted to play for scotland, he shouldnt have played about 20 age grade games for wales!
The stadium may change, but the dream will remain the same!
