Brewery Field Challenge Next

By Kenny | Thursday, 29 December 2011

After our super win at St Helen’s against the All Whites last Tuesday our next game in the Principality Premiership will be at the Brewery Field where will take on newly promoted Bridgend RFC. The game will kick off at the usual time of 2.30pm on Bank Holiday Monday 2ND January 2012.

Having secured some very good wins recently in the league we now sit in fifth spot going into the new year. January will be another big month for us, we have away fixtures in both league and Cup so the squad will be tested to the full over the coming weeks.

It’s good to have Bridgend back in the fold as it were. After a couple of seasons in Div’n 1 West, they secured promotion this year with a play-off win against Glamorgan Wanderers and have done very well so far this season. They sit just below us in the league and have already shown that they will be tough to beat on their own patch having secured wins against Neath, Swansea, Cross Keys and Newport. Their last scheduled game on Boxing Day at Tonmawr was called off a little more than half an hour before kick off much to their frustration, so they will be even keener to take us on and make a massive statement by securing a win against the current Champions.

I took a quick look through the archives to see when we last played in the league at the Brewery Field. It was on 25th Oct 2008, that day we came away with a hard fought victory by 25 – 18. Included in our team that day were a number of household names who have really gone on to bigger and better things – the team was

Ian Jones, Craig Hawkins, Aled Hopkins, Adam Powell, Aaron Shingler, Josh Turnbull, Nick Cudd, Dan Godfrey

Gareth Davies, Rhys Priestland, Nick Jones, Matthew Brayley, Nic Reynolds, Matthew Jacobs , Dan Newton

Bench was
Simon Gardiner, Ricky Guest, Shaun Hopkins, Luke Jones, Justin Jones, Luke Richards, Andrew Banfield.

It certainly goes to show that playing at Premiership level provides fantastic opportunities for anyone who puts in the hard yards – some team eh!!

Anyway, I’m sure we’ll all receive a good welcome at the Brewery Field so as it’s the last day of the Christmas/New Year holiday break why not come along to catch some Premiership action – it promises to be a super game.

Other fixtures on the day include

Aberavon v Pontypridd

Cardiff v Newport

Cross Keys v Bedwas

Pontypool v Llandovery

Swansea v Carm Quins

Tonmawr v Neath

bridgend phoned tonmawr at 1pm and were told the game was on and when they arrived the pitch was totally unplayable and the game was called off.

they've done this to us as well (amongst other things). i hope they are made to forfeit the game, and i wont be sorry to see them relegated.

I thought Owen Williams went about his business in a neat and tidy way against the Whites last week. Couple of nice passes to put people in for tries.

He's bigger than Jordan, the same sort of size as Stevo, Priestland, Steve Shingler. Is this why Jordan is learning his trade at FB?
