Didn't we play Gary Jones on the wing for a while? This is going back some 20 years though.
Then raise the scarlet standard high.
Within its shade we'll live and die,
Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer,
We'll keep the red flag flying here.

In 1972, Roy Bergiers scored that try and said "that was for you lofty"

I'll say this, his burst of acceleration, draw and then give vs Leinster is on probably on par with anything our backs have offered this season.

Starting Shingler with 11 or 14 on his back is ridiculous, but his strength is running with ball in hand in wide open spaces, so while he's on the pitch (at 6 I would suggest), the Scarlets game plan should be to try him in wide channels when there's a forward marking him in defence, to try and exploit a slower defender marking him (to try and repeat his try in the cup final a few years ago).

Boomer was an outstanding player who waited too long to get capped on that ill-fated tour to NZ in the late 80s. He won his first cap the same day as Nigel Davies.
I can't ever remember him playing on the wing though.

Gary Jones was never an option on the wing. Boys you have short memories, or are you all very
young ( on the other hand, I may be getting on a bit!).
Doesn't anyone remember Roy Mathias?  He was a very, very good wing forward for Llanelli before he was switched to the wing.  He was capped against France in 1970 before joining St Helen's. He played for both Wales and Great Britain Rugby League sides.  He was a cracking player who used to thrill the enclosure boys under the South stand at Stradey with barnstorming, try scoring runs. He was very strong and abrasive and he could really shift too.
Boys, don't [beep] Rasputin for thinking out of the box.  He's prompted one or two interesting posts.
However, I can't say that I agree with him about Shingler, even though he has all the raw materials.
Shingler could be a fantastic No 6., if we are patient enough to develop him.
